Distress Embossing Powders

Posted in Companies We Love, ideas, projects, Ranger, samples, stock at 9:55 am by scrapbookdesigns

Many of us know how to use embossing powders but using the Tim Holtz Distress Powders are a step up on how to introduce tactile character to your projects.  They can be used on top of all pigment inks and other embossing ink types such as Perfect Medium and Versamark. Below you will find a quick 3 step photo shoot of how distress powders look and work.  At Scrapbook Designs we stock all the colours of the full Tim Holtz Distress Range of products.

STEP 1:Stamp your image with a pigment ink and apply Distress Powder just like you would “normal embossing powder”. Pour excess powder back in vial.distress-powders-1.jpg

STEP 2:Heat set your Distress Powder just like you would “normal embossing powder”.  You will see the colour change. When cooled, gently rub on the powder to “release” some of the powder that will reveal a distressed look. distress-powders-1a.jpg

STEP 3:The finished texture of the Distres Embossing Powders is grainy, almost like a fine sand has been used.  Of course it is similar to any other embossing powder in nature.  This means it will not fall off your project as it is permanently adhered to it during the heating process.

Eyelet Setting Know How

Posted in Companies We Love, Email Us, Provocraft, Reviews, stock at 10:51 pm by scrapbookdesigns

We have been blown away in the last few months by the ease and success of the Provocraft Silent Eyelet Setter and with new stocks arriving next week we thought that it was time to give this great setter the review it deserves.

silent-setter-1.jpg

The eyelet setter comes in a soft zip locked carry case and apart from the main piece “the handle”, you will find 3 hole punch heads and 3 setter heads for the following eyelet sizes: 1/16″, 1/8″& 3/16″. Also as part of the kit you get a small eyelet mat and a free jar of eyelets! Bargain! Of course eyelets aren’t the only use for this tool.  Use the hole punch heads for making holes in shrink plastic, for tags, to thread ribbon through etc etc.  Because of its design, the eyelet setter can be used on projects of any size at any stage.  This is great for last minute additions right in the middle of a page layout believe me! and all silently, quickly and without a fuss..

silent-setter-2.jpg

STEP 1: Depending on the size of the hole you need to make, slot your chosen punch head into the “handle”, this is easy peasy as it is magnetic!

silent-setter-3.jpg

Step 2: Place your eyelet mat under your project and using an effortless slight  twisting action, press down where you want the eyelet to appear.  In the sample above we are adding an eyelet to the middle of a punched out flower.

silent-setter-4.jpg

Step 3: Pop your eyelet into the hole. Pretty basic we know BUT there are still some “newbies” out there that don’t know about eyelets but this tool makes it SOOOO easy!

silent-setter-5.jpg

Step 4: Flip over your project. Wow that’s hard isn’t it!

silent-setter-5a.jpg

Step 5: Change the punch head for the setter head of the same size.  The 3 different sizes are etched on the side of each punch and setter head.  Alternatively if you keep your setter stored in its pack, you can write the size for each above it.  This makes quick reference as you can pull out the punch and matching setter head at the same time.

silent-setter-6.jpg

Step 6: Voila, flip over and your project is finished!!  This will be our last shipment of eyelet setters we get in before Christmas and they go fast! If you would like one put aside or need more info, contact us at scrapbookdesigns@westnet.com.au

Christmas Projects to share..

Posted in Christmas, ideas, projects, samples at 9:15 am by scrapbookdesigns

We’re sorry we’ve been harping on a bit with “Christmas” but we want to make sure you have lots of inspiration to make cards, invites, table decorations and more! Get organised before the season comes by making a list of everything you need to take fantastic photos of family and friends on the day. Make sure the batteries are totally charged up, if you have a digital camera take your power cord EVERYWHERE in case you need it. It’s amazing how you can miss out on “those great photos” if you run out of power.  For an SLR, pack the bag full of extra film, a spare battery and make sure your flash is working BEFORE you go! If you have someone special visiting over Christmas, how about making a small book of the day for them filled with photos of happy memories to send to them. Of course there are always pages to make afterwards recording all those smiling faces, opening presents, table settings BEFORE the feast and what about the tree and the food! These are the memories that only happen once a year so go for it and snap away!!! Click on thumbnails below for a detailed look at the projects which are instore for you to get up close to!

Well before you start snapping at Christmas, there are cards to make before and nothing is as precious these days but a handmade, thoughtful wish like below.  We have an great array of Christmas stamps instore with more arriving! Stamps make great additions for your books and scrapbook layouts as they can be used over and over.  Different coloured inks, the positioning of the stamps, the cardstock and embellishments added can make one stamp have many end results! Get to it!
